over the holiday weekend, i went to visit my sister up in northern california. the drive is supposedly 6hrs, but with three kids in the backseat and a few i-gotta-pees and i’m-hungrys, it took short of 8hours.
if there’s one more thing you should know about me, it’s that i LOVE driving. roadtrips (randomed or planned) make my heart so happy. yes, that even includes being stuck in traffic here and there. mother and i took turns driving, but i pretty much drove 70% of the way. which i didn’t mind of course.
we left at 5 in the morning and luckily missed the LA traffic. there was a short period where the expressway merged to a couple of lanes because there was a car-motorcylce collision. i’m glad mother drove first, coz by the time we got to I-5 (which was about 90% of our drive), the sun was just rising, and we were surrounded by the beautiful mountainside view.
since i wasn’t driving yet, i took lots of pictures using both my canon rebel t3 and my samsung galaxy s3. some photos were a bit blurry, so i just posted my favorites. by the time it was my turn behind the wheel, it was already bright and sunny outside, so i didn’t have to worry about missing any more beautiful photos.
driving with the mountains in full view is so awesome and breath-taking. when the elevation starts to get higher, you drive through the grapevine, a winding road that takes you to drive through canyon. there’s a part where the roads between the two mountainsides are so narrow, if you go over the roadside fence, you wouldn’t be able to hike the side coz it’s steep. it almost feels like you’re being engulfed by land coz there’s just mountains to your sides and ahead of you.
(should i be calling them mountains or hills?! haha. i get corrected EVERYTIME.)
you pass through the grape vine, then tejon pass, and then you descend and see the flat lands. since it was really chilly that morning, add to that the sun was still rising over the horizon, the town was blanketed in fog. it made driving through that community eerily beautiful.

i‘m very glad i was riding with people. i wouldn’t have gotten the chance to take awesome shots of the pretty views. if i had gone by myself, i’d have to figure out a way to stop somewhere, or pull over the side of the road, just so i can get a good shot. haha.
